Sneak Peek of Hello Gold Mountain

Throughout the dinner, Wu Fei and members of chatterbird ensemble will debut powerful pieces from their upcoming premiere of Hello Gold Mountain -- an original composition that tells the story of Jewish refugees who fled to Shanghai from Europe before World War II.

Thursday, February 21, 12 - 1 PM: Panel discussion with TIRRC, chatterbird, and the Jewish Federation of Nashvilleat the Nashville Public Library's downtown location.  The discussion will feature Rabbi Mark Schiftan of the Temple whose mother found refuge in Shanghai during WWII. The event is free and open to the public. 

Saturday, February 23, 7 PM: World-premiere full-length performance of Hello Gold Mountain, an original composition by Wu Fei for chamber orchestra, performed by chatterbird ensemble, featuring Wu Fei on guzheng and Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz (Silk Road Ensemble) on oud — the traditional Chinese and Jewish plucked string instruments respectively. Hello Gold Mountain tells the stories of Jewish refugees who fled from Europe to Shanghai during WWII, and later from Shanghai to San Francisco during the Chinese Civil War. Drawing on the musical traditions of Eastern European Jewish culture and China, Hello Gold Mountain reflects on the cultural impact of refugee populations both then and now. Purchase tickets here
