Winter Storm Fern Response

This spirit of resilience and mutual aid was especially evident during the freezing conditions of Winter Storm Fern. While we coordinated 50,000 wellness checks and delivered over 6,300 hot meals, it was the human connection that truly set our efforts apart. A Spanish-speaking community member expressed their gratitude, noting, “I know God put you in my path. I am deeply grateful for the help you have given us. In the midst of this despair we are experiencing, we found you, such wonderful people. Thank you so much to TIRRC; I know this organization is always fighting for our rights and for justice for so many of us who are in this country and sometimes feel alone... God bless each and every one of you.”

This legacy of solidarity, regardless of conditions, is already being passed on to the next generation. A Somali canvasser reflected on this: “I just wanted you to know that we're so grateful for you and the people you work with. All the meals, hotels, and standing with our community through this has been keeping us going. You were with us through the election, through the deportations in Minnesota, and now through the ICE storm... my little sisters, who are 10 and 8, are being told they have to volunteer and canvas with TIRRC when they are older.”
