Middle Tennessee Mother’s Day Gathering
For our Middle Tennessee Mother’s Day gathering, we came together for more than just celebration; we held space for healing and preparing for the unknown. We were honored to feature Estefany Rodríguez and her husband, Alejandro, whose powerful story of surviving ICE detention served as a testament to the enduring strength of immigrant families. Spring, our Senior Director of Legal Strategy, gave a presentation about how to be prepared in times of mass deportation, both before and after a detention in Tennessee. Understanding that trauma often affects women and their health, our gathering centered on collective wellness. Volunteer therapist Lina Bravo led a mental well-being session and invited the community to join our support group, JUNTAS SANAMOS (Healing Together). Dr. Jordy Espel gave a presentation on physical health care and cancer prevention to all attendees.
After the programs, we honored all of the mothers in the room with cultural performances, dance, food, and flowers! Events like this one are helping us lay the groundwork for a new, powerful Women’s Committee for Middle Tennessee.
