Secured Estefany Rodríguez’s release and challenged her arrest and detention.
Estefany Rodríguez, a reporter for the Spanish-language media outlet Nashville Noticias, was arrested and quickly transferred to a Louisiana detention center without speaking to her husband, Alejandro, or her lawyer for her active Asylum case. Estefany is a longtime friend of TIRRC, so our Legal and Organizing teams jumped into action to support her family and legal team. She spent weeks in detention, but between TIRRC’s lawyers and organizers and her case lawyer, we secured her release and challenged her arrest and detention on First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendment grounds. Alejandro shares, “ I know it can be easy for so many across Nashville and this state to not speak up about the cruelty happening to our neighbors right now because they are disconnected from these horrors. This is personal to me now. It’s about fighting for the rights and freedoms of my neighbors, my community, those who are building a life here in the US and whose lives and families are turned upside down.”
He remembers when TIRRC staff member Lety called him right after the news broke on Estefany’s detention and said, “I’ll be here with you until this ends,” and TIRRC was there for him and his family every step of the way.
