Immigrant communities are under siege in the era of Trump and mass deportations. It's critical that we stand together to defend our communities and our values. Today we need you to take TWO actions to stop deportations - it will take just a few minutes!

We need you to take action to keep a Memphis journalist from being placed in deportation proceedings simply for doing his job and reporting on MLK50 events. We also need you to send a message to your Senator and urge them to vote against the Mass Deportation bills that will considered on the Senate floor tomorrow.

There's more information on both calls to action below. Please take action with us - twice - today!

Yesterday, during a peaceful protest against immigration detention, eight Memphis activists were arrested by the Memphis Police Department. The MPD also arrested Manuel Duran, a well-known Spanish language journalist in Memphis who was covering the event. It is unacceptable and un-American for a journalist to be arrested for doing his job, and we are advocating for the charges to be dropped.

While Manuel has been in the custody of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has asked the sheriff to keep him in detention so they can pick him up and deport him. This request is completely voluntary and the sheriff doesn’t have to comply. We need you to join us in urging Shelby County Sheriff Bill Oldham to not honor this voluntary request and release Manuel immediately without handing him over to ICE.

TAKE 30 SECONDS TO SEND THE SHERIFF AN EMAIL AND DEMAND MANUEL BE RELEASED!

Tomorrow morning the Senate is voting to advance two mass deportation bills. We need you to take action before 8:30 am TOMORROW so your Senator knows you want them to oppose these harmful bills.

SEND A MESSAGE TO STOP THE MASS DEPORTATION BILLS NOW!

SB 2332 would require all of Tennessee's local law enforcement agencies to help Trump's deportation force and would prohibit common-sense local policies that promote community trust and public safety. SB 2333would make it difficult for immigrant families to access critical services and verify their identity in routine encounters with law enforcement by banning the use of certain foreign IDs and municipal IDs.  Read more about the efforts to ban IDs in the Tennessean.

We can't let these mass deportation bills become law - please take one minute to send a message now.
