It's been three months since the president terminated the DACA program. Already more than 11,000 DACA recipients have lost their status, their ability to work, and their protection from deportation. Every day that Congress fails to take action another 122 immigrant youth lose their DACA. This is a crisis.
That's why more than 10,000 immigrant youth and allies just held a powerful rally in Washington D.C. and I was just arrested on the steps of the U.S. capitol with hundreds of others.
Now is the time for bold and transformative action in defense of our values. We know that the majority of Americans and Tennesseans support DACA recipients and legislation like the Dream Act. This is our moment. We all must do everything in our power to fight for the Dream Act and to demand that Congress take action before Christmas. The 8,300 DACA recipients in Tennessee can't wait.
Last month, Congressman Steve Cohen from Memphis made a powerful statement that he would refuse to support a budget deal if it didn't include a clean Dream Act. We need all of our Members of Congress to use their power now to demand that the Dream Act passes before Christmas.
Tomorrow, President Trump will be meeting with Congressional leadership from both parties to discuss year-end legislative priorities. They need to hear from our members of Congress today!
