Mary was born in Louisiana and moved to Nashville when she was 13, where she attended high school and Belmont University. Growing up, she spent many summers in her mother’s native country of Honduras, visiting relatives, learning Spanish, and appreciating her Hispanic roots. As a daughter of a Latina immigrant, Mary has been an advocate for creating welcoming communities. After many years of living in San Diego and Thailand and earning a graduate degree in Social Work, she returned to Nashville to work with arriving refugees at Catholic Charities, helping them adjust to the Nashville community. She joined TIRRC in May of 2015 as the Education Coordinator, where she has implemented and taught in the English Innovations adult ESL program.
