Prior to joining TIRRC in February 2016, Mai worked as a program assistant at Multi-National Ministries (Memphis Leadership Foundation) where she organized after school programs for immigrant and refugee students and taught ESL to Latina and Yemeni women. Her interest and support for TIRRC’s work stems from lived experiences. She was born in a Thai refugee camp and was resettled in Memphis in the summer of 1999. Mai got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Memphis in Political Science and History with a minor in International Studies. Her MA research compares the perception of ongoing refugee crisis in Europe with the Vietnamese boat refugees in the 70s and 80s using Germany as a case study. At TIRRC, Mai assists with grant writing and development. She speaks Vietnamese and English.
