Our Tennessee students cross the stage with hopes of continuing their education and starting a career that benefits our state and strengthens our community. However, no matter how long they have lived in Tennessee or what their potential is, these graduates face great barriers because of our current tuition policy. Undocumented Tennessee students must pay more than three times as much as much as their classmates to attend a public college or university. Such high tuition rates lead to only 5 – 10% of undocumented high school graduates continuing their education.

In recent years, Tennesseans have joined together and made education a top priority for our state. Together we have committed to improving K- 12 education, lowering high school drop-out rates, and increasing college access and completion. We have trained the best teachers to prepare our students for success, while instilling in graduates our values of fairness, equality, justice and opportunity. We can only live up to our ideals and meet these goals by bringing tuition equality to Tennessee. Our policies must reflect our values and allow all Tennessee students fair access to higher education.
