<p>The Communications Coordinator interacts with the media, serves as one of the primary spokespersons for the organization, builds alliances with key ally constituencies, and coordinates efforts to educate the public through general communications strategies and the Welcoming Tennessee Initiative. For general communications, key functions include monitoring press coverage, handling media inquiries, pursuing coverage of significant issues and events, training spokespeople and conducting media trainings for members. For the Welcoming Tennessee Initiative, key functions include holding and designing educational presentations, supporting local &ldquo;Welcoming Committees,&rdquo; and training &ldquo;Welcoming Ambassadors&rdquo; to coordinate local presentations and media strategies.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Background in communications strongly preferred</li>
<li>Ability to prioritize and work under minimal supervision</li>
<li>Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds</li>
<li>Fluency in English required; fluency in at least one other language (especially Spanish, Arabic, Kurdish or Somali) preferred</li>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or equivalent preferred</li>

<p>TIRRC offers internships to dependable high school, college or graduate students who are willing to dedicate regular hours over a long period of time. Interns are not required to have experience, however, they must desire to gain real skills and have an interest in immigrant and refugee rights. Interns must be comfortable working with people of all backgrounds and immigration status. All internships are unpaid and interns are responsible for housing and transportation. Interns must be willing to work a minimum of 10 hours a week and commit to 3 months, 6 months, or a year with a specific TIRRC program.</p>

Great opportunity to learn about nonprofit event planning! </span></p>
