Citizenship Workshop in Shelbyville
On Saturday, May 22, 2010, the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, in partnership with
El Centro Latino, Catholic Charities of Guadalupe, and Siskind, Susser, and Bland, held a free citizenship workshop in Shelbyville, Tennessee. The workshop was specifically designed to assist local immigrants as they prepare to become permanent United States citizens. With the assistance of dozens of volunteers from various locations throughout the State, we were able to aid many individuals throughout the day.
The citizenship workshop took place between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. During these hours, we helped applicants fill out N-400 applications for permanent citizenship, and assisted these individuals with any questions specific to the process of applying for permanent residency. We also provided multiple documents to assist applicants as they organize necessary documents for the citizenship application, and prepare for the U.S. Government and History exam.
Throughout the day, approximately 15 volunteers and 15 applicants stopped by the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce, the facility in which the citizenship workshop was held. All individuals involved had an enjoyable and memorable experience. The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition is extremely appreciative of all volunteers and participants involved in the citizenship workshop, and we look forward to seeing each of you at future meetings, seminars, and workshops!
